Making The Best Life Decisions

Jasbina Ahluwalia asks Sheila Dharmarajan: I love that. I really appreciate you sharing your insights with all of us, Sheila.

I’m wondering if you have any last thoughts or take-home message that you’d like to share with our listeners.

Sheila Dharmarajan

I think there are two things that really helped me in my life.

When I was a freshman in college, there was a speaker. I really wish that I knew her name so that I could be in touch with her.

What she said at a speech my freshman year of college has played such a big role in my life. It’s really about decision making.

Making The Best Life Decisions: Don’t Think Twice

Her piece of advice was, “If it was the best decision you could make at the time, don’t worry about it. You’ve done the best you can. Don’t think twice about it.”

I think we live in this age where we’re so hard on ourselves. We always look back and say, “Should I have done this? Should I have done that?”

Every point in time, you have a certain nexus of information that you have to take in and make decisions on.

If you can look at all of the points in your life where you’ve had to make big decisions and say, “Based on the information I knew then, it was the best decision I could make,” then you have to feel good about that.

Making The Best Life Decisions: No Regrets!

No regrets.

Don’t look back.

Move forward.

Making The Best Life Decisions: Pivot

The second point is what we were talking about in terms of the pivot.

Life is going to throw all sorts of things at you, whether it’s an economic downturn, a sick parent or something unexpected that comes up.

The ability to be successful is not so much about getting from Point A to Point B.

It’s about getting from Point A to Point B through the pivots that are going to come your way, how you navigate them and get around them.

That’s what you should focus on.
