Dating a Mama’s Boy
Jasbina Ahluwalia asks Dr. Catherine Cardinal, author of, Men to Run From: So You Can Find the Right One to Run to: The final of the three prototypes that I’d like to discuss tonight is one that you characterize as, “He’s a young thing and cannot leave his mother.” Tell us about that one.

Dating a Mama’s Boy: Emotional Attachment
This is the guy for whom it doesn’t matter if he lives with his mom or not. It doesn’t matter whether she’s down the hall or across the country.
He has an emotional attachment to his mom that he has not grown out of. It’s almost as if mom is on his shoulder at all times.
Dating a Mama’s Boy: A Metaphor
I remember that I had a Catholic girl come to see me who had gone to Catholic school for 13 years. She had Catholicism with all those strict rules.
She said, “I feel that every day I’m walking around with a nun on my shoulder. Every action I take is being judged by the nun.”
This is a very similar metaphor for a boy who cannot leave his mother.
The trouble with that is there is some standard that his mom has that you will eventually come under scrutiny.
