Is Gluten-Free Good or Bad?
Thank you so much for your question. We have another question. You’re on the air. Please go ahead.
Gluten-Free Good or Bad: The Debate
Caller Three asks Dr. Jason Beeharilal, Founder of Premier Wellness Associates, LLC: This is Michelle calling in from Arlington. I have two questions.
My first question is, what are your thoughts on gluten?
I know that a lot of people say that the wheat we eat is not the same as the wheat that we ate in the 1900s, especially in America because of the way that they cook the bread. It is not fermented enough.
What are your thoughts on gluten?
Dr. Jason Beeharilal
I mentioned this at the NetIP Conference as well. You’re right.
The processes that we use to process our grains with tend not to be the same ones that they used to be.
Is Gluten-Free Good or Bad: Individual Basis
You never know what’s in things. For some people, gluten-free diets work awesome. For some people, they have no effect whatsoever.
There are a lot of studies that show both ways, in terms of benefit and no benefit.
My general feeling about gluten-free, lactose-free or any of those kinds of things, if it works for you then that’s awesome.
The reason that I’m being a little bit vague is because each person is different.
Is Gluten-Free Good or Bad?: The Good
There is no one diet that works for all people.
I could put one person on a gluten-free diet and they would have an awesome result. They would never feel better in their life. They would have the best absorption.
A lot of people have had really good results with gluten-free.
Other folks never really notice anything.
Is Gluten-Free Good or Bad: Commit to Change
My thing is to try it if you like. If it works for you then stick with it.
That goes for lactose-free. About 80% of people of color are lactose intolerant.
Look at people out there who have IBS symptoms. They’re being diagnosed with everything in the GI spectrum in the textbook. You take them off lactose and they’re fine.
Is Gluten-Free Good or Bad: Depends on Your Body
The same thing happens with gluten. The same thing happens with certain kinds of wheat germ. The same thing happens with all kinds of substances. It’s a matter of your body and what your body prefers.
