LONDON - Prime Minister

Manmohan Singh told the global

community that India is willing

to increase its contribution to the

International Monetary Fund

(IMF) but does not intend to bor-

row any money from the multi-

lateral lending agency.

“We do not visualise any need in

the near future to go to the IMF

... We can consider contribution

to (the) IMF in proportion to our

quota,” he told reporters after

the meeting of the G-20 leaders,

who pledged to treble the re-

sources of the IMF.

Revenues from KG-D6 gas sales

are expected to be $42 billion over

the life of the field, and the

Reliance took just seven years from

the date of discovery to begin gas

production from the deep-sea KG-

D6 block as against the global prac-

tice of a minimum of nine years.

“As far as India is concerned ... the

question arises that we should con-

tribute (to the IMF),” Singh said

when asked whether India, like

Mexico, is planning to withdraw

funds from the new facility ap-

proved at the G-20 Summit.

RIL Makes History With Deep-Sea Gas Flow

The gas would boost power supply

“It is a landmark in the history of

oil and gas production. (The)

world over, this has created a new

benchmark for deep-sea develop-

ers,” said Director-General of Di-

rectorate General of Hydrocar-

bons, V K Sibal.

The $8.835-billion (Rs 44,175

crore) project will double domes-

tic natural gas production when the

field hits its peak output of 80 mil-

lion cubic metres per day in 2010.

It will wipe out the fuel deficit at

urea-making fertilizer plants and

meet half of the 36 mmcmd gas

shortfall in power plants. Reliance

will produce enough gas to meet

about a third of the UK demand.
